 PHENDIMETRAZINE INFORMATION
BRAND NAME(S): Bontril or Bontril SR
PHENDIMETRAZINE INFO: Phendimetrazine is a sympathomimetic amine that is very similar to an amphetamine. It is commonly referred to as an “anorectic” or “anorexigenic” drug and works by stimulating the brain and nerves to increase your heart rate and blood pressure, which in turn decreases your appetite.
HOW TO TAKE PHENDIMETRAZINE: Phendimetrazine should be taken at least one hour prior to meals. It is a sustained-release, long acting product and it is important that it be swallowed whole. Taking it by other methods may destroy its sustained long acting property, possibly resulting in increased side effects. Because this medication may cause sleeplessness, avoid taking it late in the day. Always take Phendimetrazine as prescribed by your doctor and it should not be taken more often or longer than directed. A typical course of treatment is 8 to 12 weeks. It is generally not recommended that Phendimetrazine be taken in combination with other appetite suppressants. Consult a doctor before any such use.
PHENDIMETRAZINE SIDE EFFECTS: Although side effects cannot be anticipated, if any
develop or change in intensity, consult your doctor as soon as possible. Blurred vision, dizziness, dry mouth, sleeplessness, irritability, stomach upset or constipation are all normal side effects that you may experience in the first few days as your body gets used to Phendimetrazine. If you find these side effects to be difficult to handle or if they persist beyond a few days, please speak to your doctor. If find that you get dizzy, stay away from anything that requires you to be alert until this condition subsides. A pounding heart, mood changes, nervousness, chest pain, difficulty breathing, problems with urinating, or swelling are all more serious side effects and you should contact your doctor immediately if any of these occur. Consult your doctor also regarding any other potential but less common side effects.
PHENDIMETRAZINE PRECAUTIONS: Let your doctor know of everything in your medical history that could be of possible concern. This includes whether you think you might be pregnant or know you are, and whether you are breastfeeding or considering it. You should also let the doctor know if you have diabetes, overactive thyroid, high blood pressure, glaucoma, or emotional problems. It is important to note as well that Phendimetrazine can be habit-forming if not closely monitored by a physician. This medication must always be used with caution. If you have previously been addicted to anything, stay away from this medication. Avoid alcohol use while taking this medication. It can react to the drug and cause unwanted side effects to develop. Phendimetrazine-SR® (phendimetrazine) is a sympathomimetic amine (similar to an amphetamine). It is sometimes referred to as an “anorectic” or anorexigenic” drug. It works as an appetite suppressant by stimulating your brain to increase your heart rate. This decreases your desire to eat. Always speak to your doctor or pharmacist if you have other questions.
PHENDIMETRAZINE INTERACTIONS: Before you use Phendimetrazine, inform your doctor about all the medicines (prescription and non-prescription) that you are presently taking. This is especially so if you take high blood pressure medicine or MAO inhibitors such as furazolidone, phenelzine, selegiline, tranylcypromine or any other weight loss medicine. If you begin taking Phendimetrazine, you should also avoid other "stimulant" medications (such as de-congestants in cough & cold medicines) that may also increase your heart rate, as well as caffeine.
PHENDIMETRAZINE NOTES: Phendimetrazine was not created to be a long-term part of a weight loss program and should never be used in place of a healthy diet. Phendimetreazine needs to be part of a weight loss program that also includes a healthy meal plan and exercise. This medication should not be shared with your friends or family.
MISSED PHENDIMETRAZINE DOSE: If you miss your dose, simply skip it entirely, and continue your regular dosing schedule. If you miss your dose of Phendimetrazine, DO NOT take more or double the next dose. This is very important.
STORAGE: As with all medications, Phendimetrazine must be kept out of the reach of children. Phendimetrazine needs to be stored at room temperature. Keep it away from the sun and moisture.
