ULTRAM INFORMATION
GENERIC NAME: Tramadol
ULTRAM INFO: Ultram is typically prescribed in order to offer relief for individuals with moderate to moderately severe pain.
HOW TO TAKE ULTRAM: It's important that Ultram be taken exactly as prescribed by the prescribing doctor. The dosage or length of time that this medication is taken should not be increased without your doctor's approval.
ULTRAM SIDE EFFECTS: Side effects cannot always be predicted per individual, however there are some possible common side effects and these are - convulsive movements, diarrhea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth, feeling of elation, hallucinations, agitation, anxiety, bloating and gas, constipation, headache, indigestion, itching, nausea, nervousness, sweating, tremor, vomiting, weakness. Speak to your doctor about other less common and rare side effects which may be possible. If any specific side effects seem particularly troubling or persistent, be sure to let your doctor know immediately.
ULTRAM PRECAUTIONS: Avoid Ultram if it has ever given you an allergic reaction. Ultram should also be avoided after taking large doses of sleeping pills such as Dalmane, Halcion, and Restoril; narcotic pain relievers such as Morphine, Darvon, Demerol, and Percocet; or psychotherapeutic drugs such as antidepressants and tranquilizers. Additionally, Ultram should not be taken after having excessive amounts of alcohol. If you have stomach problems such as an ulcer, ensure that your doctor is aware of this as Ultram may hide their symptoms, making them difficult to diagnose and treat. Ultram can cause mental and physical addiction. If you've previously had a problem with narcotic painkillers such as Demerol, Percocet, or Morphine, you should avoid Ultram. Large Ultram doses have been known to cause seizures, especially if you have epilepsy or are taking medications (antidepressant drugs, plus narcotics and major tranquilizers such as Loxitane and Stelazine) that also increase the risk of seizures. If you have liver or kidney disease, ensure that your doctor knows about it as you may need to be given a reduced dosage.
ULTRAM INTERACTIONS: Avoid Ultram, too, if you are taking the seizure medication Tegretol.
If Ultram is taken with certain other medications, the effects of either could be decreased, increased, or altered. It is especially important to check with your doctor before combining Ultram with the following medications:
Drugs known as MAO inhibitors (including the antidepressants Nardil and Parnate)
Quinidine (Quinidex)
Sleeping pills (Halcion, Dalmane, Restoril)
Tranquilizers (Valium, Xanax)
Serotonin-boosting antidepressants such as Paxil, Prozac, and Zoloft
"Tricyclic" antidepressants such as Elavil, Norpramin, and Tofranil
Major tranquilizers such as Thorazine and Stelazine
Narcotic pain relievers (Demerol, morphine, Darvon, Percocet)
Promethazine (Mepergan, Phenergan)
Cyclobenzaprine (Flexeril)
ULTRAM NOTES: Certain withdrawal symptoms may occur if you stop taking Ultram abruptly. Such symptoms include sweating, insomnia, pain, anxiety, nausea, tremor, diarrhea, and respiratory problems. A gradual decrease in dosage will help prevent these symptoms.
MISSED ULTRAM DOSE: If you miss your time scheduled Ultram dose, you should take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the one that you missed and go back to your regular schedule. Never take two doses at once.
STORAGE: Store Ultram in a tightly closed container at room temperature.
